LUZON, VISAYAS, AND MINDANAO
Websites by Habi Textile Council, Narra Studio, and Tatler Asia, to name a few, have featured the different weaving communities in the country, giving insights into the materials and uses of the different woven products from different regions in the country.
HABI: The Philippine Textile Council (https://www.habiphilippinetextilecouncil.com/pages/who-we-are) is an NGO whose aim is to preserve and promote Philippine textiles and Narra Studio (https://narrastudio.com/pages/our-story) is a clothing brand whose aim is to connect indigenous art communities with kababayans locally and internationally. Both organizations help market and develop weaving communities in the country.
Most of the sites visited for this project feature samples of the weaving products in different regions, but still seem to lack more information on the availability and sustainability of the materials, as well as detailed information about different uses all products featured.
Given enough funding and time, our project envisions conducting further research on matters involving the sourcing of raw materials for weaving so that we may understand how to help local artisans in the mass production and marketing of woven products. This will also allow us to know more about the quality of materials being used to produce weaving textiles which may be helpful in its promotion.
